REMEMBERING MINDY

With profound sadness, we regret to inform you…

On July 3, 2018 our talented, hard-working, beautiful daughter, Mindy (Megan), lost her life in BC’s majestic Shannon Falls hand-in-hand with her soulmate, Alexey Lyakh, and good friend, Ryker Gamble.

Megan had a very active and diverse childhood, enjoying everything from taekwondo to ballet and a myriad of sports. With her fearless determination she turned out to be a pretty good athlete whose speed was an asset on every soccer and field hockey team she played on. She went on to earn an athletic scholarship at Kent State University, attending for two years before transferring to the University of Western Ontario, where she captained the Mustangs field hockey team and completed her BA degree in Media, Information and Technoculture. She was thrilled to land her first job immediately following graduation with the international public relations firm, Edelman, learning and loving every minute in the fast-paced, dynamic environment. Then she met Alexey and her life took a new path. Megan's online persona,
Mindy the Lion, was born.

For the next five years Mindy and Alexey travelled the world, creating social media strategy and content for some of the top hotel properties in the business. Their talent and work ethic enabled them to explore and discover more cultures, diversity and adventures than most of us will experience in our entire lifetimes. Instagramming her travels generated a large and devoted community due to Mindy's positive and inspirational postings. Many followers requested travel tips, honeymoon destinations, and advice that ranged from career guidance to camera technique to which hair products she used for her glorious trademark mane. She personally responded to everyone. So many wanted to learn her path that Mindy eventually shared her story in the e-book “Not Cut Out for the 9 to 5.” Ultimately, much of her time was spent coaching and helping others find their own passion and live the life of their dreams.

“Your best life begins with a decision to try.”
